FAQs
How long does it take to develop a GIS application?
Some applications, namely in the field of business geographics, can be developed in hours or a few days. Some applications, such as earth sciences, require more investigative work since precision and accuracy are necessary to yield coherent and useful results. As a rule of thumb, added complexity demands a more in-depth analysis which sometimes must be conducted in the field leading to longer development times. For example, a sanitation district might have a GIS systems in place but the data is not up to date: CirTerra will work with the customer and make a “gap analysis” to determine he must upgrade or contract for GPS field work. In this case, CirTerra will then proceed and acquire sub-meter coordinates with differential GPS for the man holes or any other asset of that sanitation district.
How expensive are your services?
GIS are used to solve complex problems and require multiple “layers” of information. Depending on your application, the number of layers can vary from a few dozen to a few hundred. Some layers are readily available and easy to acquire from known web sites. Some layers must be created through various methods such as digitalization, satellite imagery, ortho-photos and the like. This illustrates the importance to clearly understand your needs and to work in unison to solve the problem. That’s why CirTerra uses a rigorous Return on Investment methodology which clearly defines milestones, deliverables and total investment required for a successful completion.
How are you delivering your finished products?
Depending on your needs, we can deliver finished products in different formats. Hard copy printed products can be a range from 8.5×11 inches up to 60 inches in maximum width and 50 feet in length. Other soft copy options are deliverable on a CD, via email, or through the web (in Acrobat pdf format, ESRI ArcGIS Explorer, jpg, ai, gif, and other specific formats suitable for the project).
What if I don’t want to have a consultant long term but I have long term needs?
CirTerra is happy to transfer its knowledge by either using retainer formats for clients over a predetermined period of time or by teaching GIS. CirTerra uses professional trainers and conduct 2- or 3-day certified ESRI classes where the client will receive an ESRI training certificate.
